Our daughter’s first-grade teacher was helping the class learn about figures of speech. In one exercise, each child was assigned the beginning of a common phrase, and they had to come up with an alternative ending. Claire was given “You can lead a horse to water…” and (as the daughter of a dentist) she came up with “…but you can’t make him brush his teeth” as her ending. (The horse is pictured chomping on a black handled toothbrush near the watering hole. There is a tube of toothpaste in the grass, with most of the toothpaste squeezed out)
As dentists, we have learned to deal with lead-a-horse-to-water disappointments. We will develop an ideal treatment plan, and try to convince our patient how much better their lives would be with the proposed improvements, only to be told “thanks, but no thanks.” Life can be that way, and the fate of our WDA-Now 2.0 app is an example of that. The WDA communications team has learned from the developer that there will be no more technical support for our current app. Rebuilding a new app would be both a costly and labor intensive endeavor, and the current number of active users does not justify the necessary resources.
However, the WDA communications team will continue to search for creative ways to get need-to-know information to our members on a timely basis. After all (with apologies to our feline friends) “There’s more than one way to…”
That was a fun way to deliver the news. Sorry to hear the WDA 2.0 app did not take off. When we get more young members, it will probably be ready to launch again.
