I became a registered dental hygienist in 1982. I have worked in three different general practice offices. Currently, I have been on Dr. Jeffrey Kraig’s team in Fond du Lac for almost 33 years.
I joined the Wisconsin Dental Association with encouragement from Dr. Kraig and have been a member for eight years. Dr. Kraig has been involved in many aspects of the WDA and was also on the WDA Communications Committee (formerly the WDA Public Relations Committee). I was nominated to join the Communications Committee to give a voice to the dental hygienists in the association. I have really enjoyed the five years I’ve served on the committee. It is a wonderful opportunity to meet other people in the association. We brainstorm about the many ways we share communications with members, nonmembers and the general public.
There is a lot that goes on in the background to educate and keep our profession protected. I’ve learned a lot about the WDA by serving on this committee. The WDA is a great resource for new products, continuing education, advocacy and also exclusive services offered to you as a member. I would like to encourage other hygienists to look for ways to be more involved in our association by serving on one of the many committees to help keep it running smoothly.
Dental hygiene has been a great profession for me and the WDA will help keep it that way for years to come.
October is National Dental Hygiene Month — encourage your dental hygienist to become a WDA member and get involved!
