I am a third-generation dentist that has served Milwaukee for 94 years and counting!
My father, Dr. Charles Winter was always a health food advocate and his passion for dentistry influenced my brother Bruce and myself to join Hampton Dental Associates.
It was a thrill to go on a dental mission with the Christian Dental Society, run by Dr. James Carney, with my daughter, Ariel, and 35 students and act as a surgical mentor to help people that were truly in need in the St. Elizabeth parish. We removed hundreds of teeth, performed root canal therapy and really changed the lives of so many underserved people. It was a blessing to have these young students learn the importance of giving back early in their careers while also gaining skills that accelerated their dental knowledge.
I have also been privileged to call dentistry my biggest passion. I lecture and teach courses on Upgradeable Dentistry, General Dentistry as a Specialty, Advanced Treatment Planning as well as Implant treatment planning and reconstructive dentistry. Pursuing advanced certifications in the ABOI (American Board of Oral Implantologists/Implant Dentists), AAID, AGD and others have kept me busy and allowed me to maintain my love of dentistry. The love for continuing education was given to me by my father as he was constantly taking courses throughout his career.
In 1922, our grandfather Morris A. Paschen D.D.S. started his practice in West Allis, Wisconsin on Burnham Street. Our father, Charles F. Winter D.D.S joined Morris in practice and established Hampton Dental on 5323 W. Hampton Avenue, our current location! Bruce and Richard Winter are currently serving as the third generation of dentists working at Hampton Dental Associates.
Now my nephew, Jeremy, is a dentist in Chicago. My daughter, Ariel, graduated from MUSoD in May 2019 and will be joining me in practice this July. We co-authored an article in June 2017 Dentistry Today, “Orthoaesthetics: One Solution to External Resorption” and it was a thrill to work with her professionally.
Jeremy graduated 89 years after Grandpa Morris and Ariel graduated 96 years after Morris graduated from the same dental school. We are so proud of the wonderful legacy our grandpa and father have given us: compassion, education, and commitment to serving our patients and life-long learning.
