In an effort to combat the opioid epidemic, dentists are required by law to have two of their 30 CE hours be on responsible opioid prescribing – a new requirement put in place for the 2019 and 2021 licensure periods. Regardless of dental specialty, this requirement applies to all dentists in the state of Wisconsin.
Marquette University School of Dentistry is offering three sessions, presented by Dr. Joseph Best, that will fulfill the 2 CE credits of opioid instruction required for licensure in Wisconsin. The sessions – titled, “CE Your Way: Pain Control in Dentistry in the Age of Prescription Opiate Abuse,” will run from 6 to 8 p.m. at MUSoD. Cost is $75 to attend onsite at MUSoD or $50 to live stream online:
Please call MUSoD at 414-288-3093 with questions or to register for any courses over the phone.

If audited, licensees must present proof of CE requirement completion. Licensees are responsible for keeping evidence of their CE activities for six years and should diligently maintain CE information and records.
Thank you Joe for doing this. And thank you MUSoD for leading on this. Dentists are absolutely NOT at fault for the opioid problem, but we have been made somewhat of a scapegoat. Let’s show them how proactive we are and that we are in-fact the profession who puts patient’s best interests first.
