“Wow, I cannot believe that I was nominated for and received a Pyramid of Pride Award from the Wisconsin Dental Association in 2017. I was astonished when I had been notified that I was nominated by a fellow dentist to be honored with a Media Relations Award. What? Why me? What did I do? Well, I guess it was always being available to have the media interview me for the 2016 Mission of Mercy in Eau Claire and numerous other local media interviews for the newspaper and print media articles.
I just thought that it was my “job” as a WDA member to be willing to best represent our organization and the profession and to step up as a leader. As I stated in my award write up, “I am grateful, proud and humbled to be a 2017 Pyramid of Pride Award recipient and feel it is my pleasure to represent the profession and the WDA in supporting our mission of promoting dentistry and service to the public.”
I guess I am most grateful for being recognized by a fellow member and dental professional for doing the work that needs to be done. I did the work to serve, but I also appreciated the recognition!”

“Receiving a Wisconsin Dental Association Pyramid of Pride award in 2017 was a highlight within my young dental career. The WDA has numerous deserving members who work tirelessly on behalf of their patients and our profession. To be nominated and selected amongst such an impressive group of peers was an immense honor. Accepting an award in a room full of contemporaries alongside amazing leaders and mentors brought active participation in organized dentistry full circle. A night filled with great company, photo opportunities and motivating stories highlighting organized dentistry is something special.
One of the most impactful aspects of the Pyramids of Pride Awards is the nomination process itself, namely that the submission is completed by a colleague. I was truly humbled by the nomination for this award coming from a peer within the dental profession. It was the proverbial ‘cherry-on-top’ of this experience, and made the award even more meaningful. I would encourage all members to consider nominating a colleague deserving of a POP Award. There are many deserving dentists generating positive impacts on our profession and our communities! They do not act in hopes of recognition, but distinguishing their efforts with an award is a great way to thank them for their dedication and service.”
