The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency created a new rule for Dental Offices, regulating amalgam wastewater discharges from those offices to municipal sanitary sewers. The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is implementing and enforcing this federal rule until a state administrative code is developed and in place. This new rule contains requirements regarding the installation, operation and maintenance of amalgam separators, use of specified best management practices and submittal of a One Time Compliance Report (OTCR) to the Department. The DNR sent this update to dentists in Wisconsin last week that also contained additional information about the rule and the One Time Compliance Report.
The due date for submittal of this Report is Oct. 12, 2020, or 90 days after a transfer of ownership.
This outreach will more than likely reach more than one dentists at a dental office, and only one form needs to be submitted for each dental office.
The report needs to be completed and sent to the DNR at:
Pretreatment Coordinator, Department of Natural Resources-WY/3
P.O. Box 7921
Madison, WI 53703-7921
