Wisconsin Dental Association dentists interested in representing their 9th District Wisconsin and Michigan colleagues on the American Dental Association Council on Government Affairs should submit their curriculum vitae by Jan. 15, 2020 to Mark Paget at [email protected] or via fax at 414-755-4101.
All council members must be active, life or retired members in good standing of the ADA. Most councils meet twice a year, either at ADA headquarters in Chicago or the Washington, D.C. office. This ADA council appointment is a four-year term that begins immediately at the close of the ADA House of Delegates in October 2021 and runs through the 2024 ADA House.
The WDA Board of Trustees will review CVs at its February meeting and then forward names of potential candidates to 9th District Trustee Dr. Julio Rodriguez (Brodhead).
Dr. Rodriguez will submit his recommendation to the ADA Board of Trustees for consideration at its June meeting.
There are 11 ADA councils and most are composed of one member from each of the 17 trustee districts. The WDA and Michigan Dental Association established a 9th District rotation schedule for ADA council appointments in 2004 to guarantee that dentists from each state have an opportunity to serve at the national level of organized dentistry.
The 2011 WDA House of Delegates passed a resolution further defining the council member recommendation process in Wisconsin so, “…the most qualified individuals serve in these positions of leadership.”
The resolution calls for ADA council vacancies open to WDA members to be published in WDA communications, “…in a timely manner so interested individuals may identify themselves to the WDA leadership and Board of Trustees for consideration.”
