So far, the weather is pointing to a beautiful summer, just the kind that eager golfers love. But in 2020, the rules have changed. We can’t wait to get back to our normal routine, but how soon is too soon? Had this been a “normal” year, this post would be filled with information on the 2020 WDA Foundation State Dental Golf Classic…but obviously, this year has been anything but normal!
It is with much disappointment, but out of an abundance of caution, that the WDA Foundation has decided to postpone its 2020 Golf Classic – moving it to Monday, September 20, 2021. The outing is still planned for Tuckaway Country Club in Franklin…just held a year later than expected. A note to our loyal golfers, the 2021 date is one week later than our tradition Monday after Labor Day schedule. We expect this change to be for one year only.
While some believe that by mid-September our lives will return to normal, we realize that “normal” might be very different than what we are used to. Golfers may or may not be able to share golf carts or even have lunch and dinner together. Dentists who traditionally participate may be unable to break away from their practices due to the amount of time they spent with offices all but shut down in spring. Businesses are facing extraordinary difficulties so they may not be in a position to sponsor the outing or provide raffle prizes.
The Golf Classic is the WDA Foundation’s major annual fundraiser so this was not an easy decision; but with the continuing uncertainties of the pandemic, we knew it would be irresponsible for us to move forward with the event this year.
Just as your financial responsibilities haven’t stopped, our financial needs to support programs for students, dental professionals and the community will continue with or without the Golf Classic. We fully expect to be back in operation in September 2021 and hope you will join us next year. Golf fees are expected to remain the same as in 2019.
