Can you charge a patient to copy their dental record?
Yes, you can, but you must do so in accordance to statute 146.83(3f)(c)2. The schedule of health care provider records fees is updated annually and must be followed when a request for copies is made. As always, you own the dental record and should never give the original out to any patient. But the patient owns the content in the record, so if they (or any other person authorized by the patient) is requesting copies of that record to be sent, then it cannot be denied.
