It was a good day all around. You saw a full schedule of patients, including several oral exams, some fillings and a couple of extractions. There were a few new patients and others who you’ve treated for many years. You head home, looking forward to a quiet evening with your spouse and children.
But that night, the phone rings. It’s the local fire department informing you that your office has all but been destroyed by fire. Apparently that loud noise you heard while watching TV was a lightning strike that used your office as a target.
As you gather your thoughts, you realize your business will be down for several weeks while you try to pick up the pieces. Your insurance will cover much of the damage; but you are going to need some additional funds to provide for your family during the rebuilding process. You know you won’t need much; but just enough to get you through the worst of the situation. The question is: where do you get the extra money to help you over the rough spots?
As a dentist, the WDA Foundation Emergency Relief Fund may be the answer.
An application-only program of the WDA Foundation, the Relief Fund was created to assist dental professionals and their families in times of financial crisis due to emergencies, physical disability or death. It stands ready to grant funds specifically to help cover daily living expenses when a dentist or surviving spouse and/or dependents wouldn’t otherwise be able to provide themselves with the necessities of life.
In existence through the American Dental Association since 1907, the state’s Relief Fund fully moved under the auspices of the WDA Foundation in 2011 to provide a more expedient process to quickly get funds where they are needed.
