A blog post from Sept. 8 provided information on a new Department of Labor rule set to increase the minimum salary level for exempt employees effective Dec. 1, 2016. This final overtime rule will likely NOT go into effect Dec. 1 as expected.
A preliminary injunction was granted by a federal judge Nov. 22 delaying the changes to the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) indefinitely. This does not mean the new rules have been thrown out just yet as it could become effective in the future, however employers may choose to postpone any changes planned for the Dec. 1, 2016 compliance deadline.
